Olympics (17 days) and the Kingdom of God (eternal)

No matter where one turns these days, one can’t miss the fact that the 2010 Winter Olympics are here! The TV coverage is endless…the celebrations spontaneous and loud…and even Canadian patriotism has made an appearance. We celebrate the achievements, we languish at missing a medal by hundredths of a second, and somehow this event allows us to live vicariously through people we had hardly ever heard of before last week. Yes, the Olympics are exciting. Yes, I’m proud to be a Canadian.

But I find myself thinking about the many, many people I know who are making a difference that will have eternal results. The person who gives up free time to help a newcomer to Canada and show God’s love through time and action. The person who helps the less fortunate when it would be easier to simply ignore the suffering. The person who prays regularly for their neighbour. The person who gives money to further God’s kingdom. These are stories that we should celebrate, and I mean truly celebrate! They won’t get 20 hours a day of TV coverage, but they are much more important.

Some of you may read this prior to Sunday. If so, come prepared to speak of how you are seeing God at work. We will have a sharing time during the service. God is at work through His children, and this will lead to eternal results!
