If you had to choose to celebrate only one of the above listed holidays (Easter or Christmas), which would you choose?
Okay, so that’s not a fair question, because for believers they are inseparable. You can’t have one without the other! However, as I’ve been reflecting on our rapidly approaching Easter celebrations, I’ve been asking myself why we tend to prepare for one more than the other? Many evangelicals do not give much thought to the season of lent, the time of preparation for Easter. I wonder why this is? Would love to hear some of your thoughts on this…
At Christmas we celebrate “Emmanuel – God with us!” At Easter, we proclaim “He is risen; He is risen indeed!” Let’s joyfully live out these confessions in our daily lives!
Have a meaningful Easter season!
We have been going through a Lent Family Devotional for the last couple of years before Easter, and we also try and read more of the New Testament stories of Jesus at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteIt helps us focus our hearts on Jesus.
Although it's hard not to be reminded of Him, when we see beauty springing up from the dead of winter all around us in nature, isn't it?
I would love to hear more on the origins of Lent.
Thanks for your input, Bia. I have noted your request for more info on the origins of Lent.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely that the signs of spring help us celebrate Easter. However, just as I was sharing this thought with others, someone reminded me that Easter isn't celebrated in spring in the southern hemisphere. Just a thought!
