Baptism and Communion. What comes to mind when you hear these words? What is your earliest recollection involving either communion or baptism? Where’s the most unique place you’ve ever seen a baptism take place? Is the water cold or hot? Grape juice or wine? (just kidding on the last two!) Join the conversation…
November 7, 2010 is an anticipated Sunday at King Road. We will gather, hear testimonies of what God is doing in people’s lives, and then celebrate baptism and communion together. Come, join us!
Last Sunday, Pastor Don spoke about the four “R’s” of communion. First, we remember. Second, we rejoice. Third, we repent. And fourth, we are reconciled. If you missed the sermon, download it here (click on sermons) and take a listen. It does us all good to be reminded regularly of the significance of communion.
You know what caught my attention? “You see, as long as we are human, we will have sin in our lives. If we came to the table only when we are sinless, we would never come. We come because we are sinners, we come because Christ’s death paid the penalty for our sin, we come because we know that we will sin again, and that Christ’s blood has covered that too. We come only when we realize that we are sinners saved by grace.” This perspective reminds me of just how significant Jesus’ death and resurrection are for me.
And what about baptism? Well, I don’t want to steal Don’s thunder, so come to church on Sunday morning and hear a sermon on “Baptism – Believing and Belonging” I’ll post an update early next week…
