Sorry for the quietness of the last few weeks…was out of town for a few days.
Relevance. This is an interesting word that conjures up the image of having practical application. Businesses, for example, work hard at being relevant, offering the correct services and products for their consumer. At King Road, we too have agreed that relevance is one of our preferred values. “We value our faith expressed in a meaningful way so that all can understand. They will know we are Christians by our love and social responsibility.”
There is little doubt in my mind that we would quite readily agree that the communication of our faith must be understandable. We strive to be age-appropriate (e.g. children’s ministry) and context specific. We are committed to struggle through the challenge of understanding our culture in order to impact the culture with God’s love.
But how do we understand social responsibility? How well are we doing on this front? Where do we need to be challenged? Are we engaging the needs of our community? What does the City of Abbotsford gain from King Road Church’s presence in the community?
Ponder these questions. Pray and reflect. We’d love to hear some ideas…
“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:46-47)
